These iPhones Will No Longer Use WhatsApp

WhatsApp is withdrawing its support to versions under iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 as of November 30, 2026. Details for old device owners are in our news.

Meta announced that it will update the minimum operating system requirements required for WhatsApp to run as of November 30, 2026. This change will definitely directly affect users using old iPhone and iPad models.

The company regularly reviews supported operating systems because the world of devices and software is always changing. Identifying the oldest and least user-generated software, Meta excludes versions that cannot receive security updates or cannot provide the functionality required by the application from the scope of support.

New minimum system requirements

According to the statement made by Meta, in order to use WhatsApp as of November 30, devices will need to have at least iOS 15.5 or iPadOS 15.5 installed. The company makes such announcements months in advance so that users can prepare.

With the update made last year, the minimum requirement was reduced to iOS 15.1 and the support given to the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models was terminated. Although this year’s update covers a wider user base, the fact that most devices running on iOS 15.1 can be upgraded to version 15.5 makes the process easier.

It is very important for those who use devices such as iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPad Air 2 or iPad small 4 to update their devices to the latest available versions such as iOS 15.8.8 or iPadOS 15.8.8 in order to continue using the application. Complete software updates play a critical role in terms of both security and stable operation of the application.

The importance of staying current for users

This decision by WhatsApp is a warning, especially for users who want to be protected against security vulnerabilities and benefit from new features. Meta, which wants to prevent performance problems experienced on old devices, aims for a more reliable connection environment by requiring the transition to current operating system versions.

Owners of old devices are recommended to check for software updates in the settings section of their devices until November 30 and switch to the latest possible version. You can ensure that your WhatsApp experience is not interrupted by installing the latest version supported by your device.

Do you think WhatsApp ending its support for older operating systems is a sufficient step for user security?
