Messaging Feature Returns to YouTube

Messaging Feature Returns to YouTube

YouTube is rolling out its new messaging feature, which allows users to connect over images in certain countries.

Following the testing process it started last year, YouTube began to deliver its new in-app messaging system to a wider user base. This feature aims to allow users to communicate directly within the platform through their favorite images.

Users will be able to access this system through the new messaging icon in the upper right corner of the YouTube application. This new structure allows sharing of images, Shorts content or live broadcasts and one-on-one chats.

Invitation-based faithful communication

One of the most striking aspects of the system is that users have to send invitations via a URL in order to talk to each other. This invitation theme, which is valid for seven days, must be sent through a third-party messaging platform.

This restriction aims to encourage users to contact friends and family members they already know, rather than YouTube’s general audience. It is stated that the messaging feature, which was removed in 2019, is one of the most requested innovations by users.

The person who receives the invitation contact has the option of allowing or rejecting the message. This shows that YouTube keeps its messaging feature focused on image sharing and in a more controlled structure.

In addition to public images, unlisted images can also be sent in the posts, but private images are excluded from this scope. The messaging feature is only activated for users aged 18 and over.

Security and usage details

The platform emphasizes that community rules apply to all shared content and notifications. Users can take back sent messages, block individuals who send them messages, or report chats.

This feature, which offers a very easy interface other than the invitation system, provides access to people through the share menu on the image viewing screen. When a new notification arrives, a notification is sent through the application.

The feature, which started to be tested across Europe last November, is currently available to users in the USA, UK, Brazil and Singapore.
