Password, Secure, User, Chrome, Feature
Google is taking a significant step to make the mobile browsing experience more secure. The company has started testing a feature in the Android version of Chrome that requires fingerprint or facial scanning before autofilling saved passwords. Chrome Android Fingerprint Password Protection This new security layer is one of the latest measures developed to protect users’ digital identities. Google tested this feature more than a year ago but later withdrew it.
Increased Security with Biometric Verification
Now, this feature, which has been enabled again in the latest Chrome Canary version, takes the security standards on the browser to the next level. This additional verification step aims to prevent third parties with an unlocked device from accessing all saved website passwords.
When the feature is enabled, Chrome will prompt the user for authentication before autofilling the password when a saved login is touched. Even if the phone is unlocked, it will be mandatory to go through this biometric security step to access all saved passwords in the browser or to fill in password fields on websites.
This work also aims to close a significant security vulnerability in Google Password Manager. Although biometric password protection is already widely used in various mobile applications, Chrome previously handled the in-browser autofill process with a different system.
Google had previously signaled that this protective feature would soon come to the Chrome browser. Canary tests show that the company is committed to this work and prioritizes user security.
New Layer of Protection for User Data
When the new feature is rolled out, it will prevent automatic access to all saved website passwords, especially in situations such as theft or falling into someone else’s hands while the phone is unlocked. This creates a critical barrier in terms of protecting users’ personal data.
Currently, Chrome Canary is a test environment, so not all users have access to this feature yet. Google has not yet announced an official release date for the stable version.
It is expected that the feature will be gradually rolled out to all Android users once the testing process is complete. What do you think about this biometric authentication feature that will increase password security in your browser?
