The Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) shared the car and light commercial vehicle market data for September 2026 with the public. The Turkish car and light commercial vehicle market experienced a 24.33% contraction in September compared to the same period of the previous year, with 83,469 units sold.
During this period, new car sales decreased by 27.80% compared to the same month of the previous year, falling to 63,736 units, while the decrease in the light commercial vehicle market remained at 10.42%, reaching 19,733 units. This contraction in the sector reveals that the sales trends throughout the year continued in September.
Nine-Month Data Shows Overall Market Contraction
Data shared by sector representatives confirms that the automotive market experienced a general loss of momentum in the first nine months of 2026. The total market volume decreased by between January and September. 13.39% compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 803,465 units.
During this period, a 15.45% loss was experienced in the passenger car segment, with sales figures recorded at 627,977 units. In the light commercial vehicle segment, a 5.12% decrease was observed, reaching a sales volume of 175,488 units.
Five-Year Average Data Paints a Different Picture
When we compare the market’s September performance with the average data of the last five years, interesting results emerge. The overall total market managed to show an increase of 0.8% compared to the five-year average for September.
This can be interpreted as an indication that September still maintains its historical dynamism. However, while the passenger car market remained 1.9% below the five-year average, the light commercial vehicle market performed 10.7% above the average, highlighting the divergence within the sector.
