Skoda is entering a new era with the Skoda Octavia , the first model in its history to feature a full hybrid powertrain. This technology, which does not require external charging, combines the practicality of the Octavia, one of the brand’s most recognizable models, with hybrid efficiency.

The new hybrid system consists of a 1.5 TSI evo2 gasoline engine, two electric motors, a single-speed automatic transmission, and an automatic clutch. This structure manages the mechanical relationship between the gasoline engine and the front wheels, increasing driving efficiency.

Technical operating principle of the hybrid system

The two electric motors in the system take on different missions to optimize the vehicle’s performance. The smaller electric motor primarily acts as a generator, charging the battery and powering the internal combustion engine.

The more powerful second electric motor provides direct drive to the front wheels. This engine also recovers energy generated during braking, contributing to the battery’s charge level.

The vehicle automatically switches between fully electric, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid modes depending on driving conditions. In fully electric mode, the vehicle can travel approximately 2 kilometers using the energy from the battery without running the gasoline engine.

In series hybrid mode, the gasoline engine generates electricity by running the generator, and this electricity feeds the main electric motor that powers the wheels. This mode is mostly activated at speeds below 60 km/h or when sudden acceleration is required.

In parallel hybrid mode, at speeds above 60 km/h, the gasoline engine directly powers the front wheels. When needed, the electric motor kicks in, providing additional power to the vehicle.

Performance and equipment options

The new full hybrid Octavia is offered with two different power options: 136 hp and 170 hp. The entry-level model features a 96 kW 1.5 TSI evo2 engine, while the top version has a 110 kW engine.

Both versions use electric motors, and the vehicle’s top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h. The charge level of the accompanying 1.6 kWh NMC battery is automatically maintained between 40% and 90%.

With a 40-liter fuel tank, the vehicle offers an average fuel consumption of 4.3 liters per 100 kilometers. The fact that interior space is not compromised despite the components of the hybrid system is one of the most attractive features of the model.

The liftback version offers 460 liters of luggage space, while the Combi version offers 485 liters. When the seats are folded down, these volumes reach 1,400 liters and 1,540 liters respectively.

The new model can be chosen with Selection and Sportline equipment packages. Standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, a 13-inch infotainment screen, and a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument panel.

Coming with the new “HYBRID” logo on the tailgate, orders for the vehicle open in October. The first deliveries are planned for December 2026. What do you think about Skoda’s new full hybrid offensive?
