New M5 MacBook Nearly Catched Fire

New M5 MacBook Nearly Catched Fire

It was claimed that a spark occurred after the hinge movement in the new M5 MacBook model. Details about electrical faults and warranty processes in the device.

The claim that a new MacBook model with an M5 processor became inoperable within 48 hours of purchase caused widespread repercussions on social media. The user stated that when he moved the screen hinge, a spark came out of the device, an electric sound was heard and the computer suddenly lost power.

This incident was shared on the Reddit platform, along with a dark mark on the back of the device near the hinge area. Although the mark in question resembles an electrical arc or heat-related damage from the outside, the device must be examined professionally for a definitive technical diagnosis.

Hinge area and possible technical malfunctions

Modern MacBook models have a compact structure where critical components such as the screen, sensors, antennas and power management are fit into very tight spaces. Apple’s repair documentation shows that the hinge perimeter is not just a mechanical attachment point, but also an area through which many flexible cables and connectors pass.

In the event of such a malfunction, technical possibilities such as movement of an incorrectly positioned cable during the production phase or short circuiting of a connector by contacting the metal surface come to the fore. A problem that may occur in the battery or power management line may also cause sudden power loss, but it is not possible to reach a definitive conclusion without turning on the device.

A serious electrical malfunction at such an early stage in a newly purchased device brings direct service and replacement processes to the agenda for users. Devices that show symptoms such as sparks, burn marks or electrical noise should never be recharged or used.

Warranty processes and user rights

Apple’s safety documentation warns users that using damaged devices may pose risks such as fire or electric shock. In addition to the two-year limited warranty offered by Apple, consumers in Türkiye also have legal rights provided by local consumer laws.

Such serious hardware failures that occur in the early days may trigger legal processes such as replacement or repair as a result of service inspections. Although different user posts about the M5 MacBook models, such as hinge noise, can be seen on social media, claims of sparks and sudden power loss are evaluated in a separate category due to the security aspect.

If you encounter a similar situation, remember that you can exercise your legal rights by taking your device to the authorized service. So, how would you proceed if you encountered such a serious hardware problem on a new device?
