Meet the new electric Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4Matic; Luxury and performance await you together.
Today, our review guest is Mercedes-Benz’s new all-electric SUV model, GLC 400 4Matic. I chose the perfect nature of Elazığ and Erzincan to tell you about this extraordinary car. Especially, I am in the Kemaliye district of Erzincan and I have rarely seen such a beautiful geography in my life. To test this legendary car, I passed through very difficult but fascinating routes such as the Euphrates River and the Dark Canyon. I must say this from the very beginning: Mercedes-Benz has taken comfort and technology to a different dimension with this model. However, it is worth stating from the beginning; This technological luxury is somewhat precious. The price in Türkiye starts from approximately 6.9 million TL and this number can go even higher with added accessories. This vehicle, announced together with the C series, gives the premium feeling in every detail.
The exterior design of the car immediately attracts attention at first glance. At the front, there is a front grille that is completely closed due to being electric, but is inspired by the iconic history of Mercedes-Benz. There are exactly 100 LEDs in this shutter and these LEDs can be personalized. It offers you a visual feast both during your welcome and farewell. When you approach the vehicle, the hidden door handles automatically come out and the side mirrors open. The renewed star details in the car appear both in the lighting units and in different parts of the body. There are many color options for the vehicle, and the blue color I tested manages to attract all eyes on the roads.
800V Architecture, 600+ km Range and Ultra Fast Charging
Mercedes-Benz proves that it is not lagging behind its Chinese and American Competitors in this model, on the contrary, by carrying the 800V architecture that it started with the CLA to this SUV model. So what does this 800V architecture provide us? The biggest advantage is of course ultra-fast charging. When you touch the charging cover of the vehicle once, it opens electrically. The vehicle, which supports 22 kW power in residential alternating current (AC) charging, can reach a maximum charging speed of 330 kW at direct current (DC) fast charging stations. In this way, you can bring your battery from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. In fact, if you are short on time, you can store the energy to travel 300 kilometers with a 10-minute charge. Behind this system, which completely eliminates range anxiety, there is a huge battery with a capacity of 94 kWh. This battery gives the vehicle a full 638 kilometers WLTP range. Although it has a consumption varying between 14.9 and 18.9 kWh per 100 kilometers according to factory data, we will see these consumption values more clearly in our long-distance tests in the future.
The performance data of the car is also quite exciting for an SUV. This vehicle, called GLC 400 4Matic Edition One AMG, produces 489 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Thanks to this enormous power, the big-bodied SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. A little surprise greets us at the front; Contrary to the norm, there is a semi-electric “Frunk”, that is, the front trunk, under the engine hood, which can be opened by pulling the latch twice. This front trunk, which is much larger than that of Tesla models, offers extra storage space. When it comes to the driving feel, you feel the high level of comfort that is a Mercedes-Benz classic. On Kemaliye’s bumpy roads, when passing through potholes, the vehicle barely feels anything to those inside; In this regard, I can say that it offers much superior comfort than its brother, the GLB 200 Plus model. One of the details that make driving enjoyable is to deepen the recuperation (energy recovery) system in the vehicle from the paddles behind the steering wheel, control the vehicle only with the accelerator pedal without pressing the brake, and charge the battery in the meantime.
Seamless Screens and Smart Interior Technologies
When you open the door of the vehicle, you are greeted by a fascinating and extremely spacious interior. White seats further increase this spaciousness. You can adjust the illumination capacity and transmittance of the huge glass ceiling above to protect yourself from the sun. There is an uninterrupted screen experience that extends from edge to edge on the front console. The spaces between the screens, which were criticized in the CLA and GLB models, have been completely eliminated in this vehicle, and the screen lies flat and uninterrupted like the Haymana Plain. There is a camera above the passenger side screen; In this way, you can participate in Zoom meetings and take photos or videos from within the vehicle. The renewed steering wheel has haptic (touch feedback) keypads and the feeling of pressing is quite successful. You can manage the adaptive cruise control and driving functions from the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel, and the multimedia system from the right side. Gear and wiper controls are provided by levers behind the steering wheel.
Mercedes-Benz uses a new version of the operating system in this model, which is updated and much more intuitive. This artificial intelligence-based system works integrated with the computers in the vehicle, allowing you to access the settings much faster. For example, the system, which always monitors the distance to the vehicle in front, can slow down safely without disturbing you. The security measures are at such a high level that in cases where the driver is distracted, he clicks the seat belt and brings you to your senses with a jolt that will wake you up from sleep. Other elements that crown the comfort in the interior are massage seats, Burmester sound system and customizable ambient lighting. In the center console, there are two wireless charging units and cup holders with a smart reinforcement system that hold the cups tightly. Additionally, thanks to the “Mercedes me” application, you can instantly monitor the vehicle’s charging status, position and tire pressures via your smartphone.
The rear and trunk volume of the vehicle is also quite generous. The rear seats have enormous knee space, Type-C ports, a manually adjustable ventilation unit and a comfortable armrest. There is an extra space under the huge, electrically opening trunk to store cables. Additionally, you can fold the second row seats electrically using the buttons in the trunk and change the height setting of the vehicle for ease of loading. GLC 400 4Matic, a strong rival like the BMW iX3, has become a perfect option for those who want to buy a premium electric vehicle with its high-level comfort, advanced charging technology and a range of over 600 kilometers, despite the price and accessory differences.
