macOS 26.5 Update Released: Here’s What’s New

macOS 26.5 Update Released: Here’s What’s New

Apple released the macOS 26.5 update. Details about Maps ads and App Store subscription changes in the new version are in our news.

Apple has made macOS 26.5 available to users. This update focuses on system stability and infrastructure improvements rather than new user interface features.

This update, which follows the macOS Tahoe 26.4 version released on March 24, 2026, aims more at platform compatibility. The new version, which has the build number 25F71, does not contain major innovations that will change daily usage habits.

Advertising Period in Maps Application

Apple is expanding advertising support to the Maps application with macOS 26.5. These ads, which have started to appear at the top of the search results, are shown next to standard listings.

Users can now also see suggested places based on trends and location in search results. Ads are served tagged using search terms and location data rather than user profiles.

Innovations in the App Store Subscription System

With the new update, a significant change comes into play in the App Store subscription model. Developers can offer monthly payment options with a 12-month commitment in regions outside the United States and Singapore.

This model allows users to benefit from annual plan discounts with monthly payments. When the subscription begins, users commit to a 12-month payment period and the service continues until all payments are completed.

Users can track completed payments and remaining installments through their account settings. While this system creates a more predictable income model for developers, it also allows users to benefit from discounted prices without paying the annual fee all at once.

macOS 26.5 brings bug fixes and general performance improvements with updates to Safari and core system components. With this version, Apple aims for the system to work more stable and for applications to interact more harmoniously with the operating system.

The update keeps the system up to date without making any visible changes to the interface. macOS 26.5 version is available to users with a narrower scope, unlike previous updates.

How do you think these new advertising and subscription regulations in macOS will affect the user experience?
