Renault has reinterpreted one of the most iconic models in motorsport history, the Renault 8 Gordini, by combining it with modern technology. The unveiled Renault 8 Gordini electric concept combines the brand’s respect for the past with a contemporary vision of an electric car.

This new creation preserves the characteristic design details of the brand-new model that hit the roads in 1964, while taking it to a completely different level of performance. The vehicle abandons its classic four-door structure and takes on the form of a sporty two-seater coupé.

Modern Performance and Classic Design

The fully electric motor located at the rear of the vehicle produces 270 horsepower. Renault faithfully retains the rear-wheel-drive architecture, one of the most beloved features of the brand-new model, in this new concept.

Looking at its dimensions, it is 4.12 meters long, 1.88 meters wide and 1.27 meters high. Equipped with 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear, the car has a very firm grip on the road thanks to its wide track.

Examining the design details, the six round headlights and angular fenders at the front immediately catch the eye. The redesigned Gordini logo pays homage to the model’s history, while the classic blue body color and double white stripes are blended with contemporary boundaries.

Renault has not left these white stripes as merely a decorative element, but has made them a module of the aerodynamic structure. The design process was completed after evaluating more than 300 drawings as a result of an internal company competition.

Race-Focused Interior and Future Plans

The interior design adopts a completely minimalist and motorsport-focused approach. Brushed aluminum is used for the instrument panel and control units, while Alcantara upholstery is preferred for the seats.

The round digital displays inside the cabin provide visual unity with the round headlight design of the car’s exterior. The bucket-type racing seats and stopwatch buttons are a direct reference to Gordini’s rich motorsport past.

The original Renault 8 Gordini, with its 95 horsepower engine, was considered one of the most accessible performance cars of its time in 1964. With this version, Renault transformed a standard car into a race-focused vehicle, laying the foundations of the sporty compact concept.

The company clearly states that this new concept is a one-off design study and will not go into mass production. The vehicle shares a similar ideology with the previously introduced Renault 5 Diamant and the electric R17 restomod projects.

First unveiled at the Renault Carwalk event on September 24th, the car will be exhibited at the Paris Motor Show between October 12-18, 2026. After the show, the vehicle will take its place in the Renault Collections museum, which Renault plans to open in Flins.
