Google Meet Comes to Cars: Here are the Details

Google Meet Comes to Cars: Here are the Details

Google Meet is now available on Android Auto. Here’s what you need to know about new features and restrictions focused on driving safety.

Google has finally included the well-known video calling application Meet on the Android Auto platform. The company introduced this feature for its rival Apple CarPlay months ago.

This update, which Android Auto users have been waiting for a long time, has now been officially released. There is no need for a complex registration process to attend meetings via the platform.

Meeting Experience on Android Auto

As long as you have the Google Meet application installed on your phone, the system is automatically ready when you get into your vehicle. Two different tabs appear on your vehicle screen, showing your scheduled meetings and recent calls.

Thanks to these tabs, you can join meetings with a single touch. Google imposes some important restrictions on this interface in order to prioritize driving safety.

The camera feature is completely disabled while driving. This way, the other party cannot see your view and you will not be distracted.

In addition, all distracting interactive features such as chat, hand raising or surveys are turned off in car mode. There are only buttons to mute the microphone and end the call on your screen.

Important Use Restrictions

The system brings with it some limitations for security reasons. Instant meeting relationships that have not been previously added to your calendar do not appear on the tool screen.

This means that you cannot manage last-minute urgent meeting notifications from the vehicle screen. If you need to attend an urgent call, you need to stand in a safe place and use your phone.

This new integration of Google Meet makes meeting follow-up easier, especially for drivers with a busy work schedule. Designed to prevent distraction while driving, this simple interface focuses only on voice communication.

This limited but reliable experience offered by the application helps drivers in traffic continue their conversations without disrupting their work. Still, these restrictions offered by the system limit users’ chances of intervening in instant developments.

Do you find it safe to use this new feature of Google while driving?
