BMW iX3 Breaks Record: Pushes Limits on a Single Charge

BMW’s new electric model iX3 broke a record by reaching a range of 1,030 kilometers on a single charge in a test drive. Here are the details.

A new development has occurred in the world of electric cars, pushing the limits of range. BMW’s new generation model, the BMW iX3, set a remarkable record by exceeding the 1,000 kilometer mark on a single charge in a special driving test.

The German automotive manufacturer BMW shared the efficiency results for long-range driving with its all-electric new model, the BMW iX3 50L. In an official road test conducted in China, the vehicle traveled 1,030.2 kilometers on a single charge, achieving one of the highest range values in its segment.

A Non-Charging Journey from Shenyang to Beijing

Engineers completed the route from the production facility in Shenyang to the R&D center in Beijing without charging the vehicle at all. When the 1,030-kilometer journey ended, it was observed that the vehicle’s battery still had 5% charge remaining.

According to official CLTC data, the model has a range of 919 kilometers on paper, but it managed to exceed this number in the field test. Reaching its destination without stopping at any charging stations along the way, the iX3 50L showcases the level achieved by BMW’s developed infrastructure.

BMW officials state that with this study, they aim to transparently demonstrate the brand’s engineering capabilities. This test, in particular, proves the point reached in efficiency improvements in electric vehicle technologies.

Technological Infrastructure and Daily Use

This achieved driving distance is not only explained by the increased battery size. At the heart of the system lies BMW’s 6th generation eDrive technology and 800V high-voltage infrastructure.

The 46 mm cylindrical cells used in the vehicle offer 20 percent higher power density. Additionally, the integrated battery design reduces load while increasing efficiency, and the intelligent power management system optimizes consumption in real-time.

BMW emphasizes that the 1,030 kilometer range is not a standard promise for daily use. This result was achieved under specific conditions where all variables, including speed, climate control, vehicle load, and weather conditions, were optimized with efficiency in mind.

The iX3, notable for its cylindrical battery cells developed specifically for the Chinese market, is attracting attention in the automotive world with its charging speed and power management. The model will officially be available for pre-order at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21st.

Do you think a 1,000 kilometer range is a sufficient standard for daily use in electric cars?
