Will Nintendo Switch 2 be able to handle Unreal Engine 5?

Will Nintendo Switch 2 be able to handle Unreal Engine 5?

Nintendo Switch 2’s Unreal Engine 5 performance will be tested with the Yoshi and The Mysterious Book game, which will be released on May 21.

Nintendo’s new console, Nintendo Switch 2, has been a topic of discussion in the technology world for a while due to the high performance requirements offered by the Unreal Engine 5 engine. While we are curious about the performance of advanced features such as Lumen and Nanite on the console, the Yoshi and The Mysterious Book game will give an important test in this regard.

Yoshi and The Mysterious Book is the first production to use the Unreal Engine 5 engine as a Nintendo first-party game. The Unreal Engine logo on the box design of the game prepared for the Japanese market officially confirms this technical infrastructure.

Unreal Engine 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 Performance

Nintendo has previously released Yoshi’s Crafted World, Princess Peach: Showtime! and Pikmin 4. He used the Unreal Engine 4 engine. However, the development of the new game with Unreal Engine 5 may herald a new era in terms of Nintendo’s game optimization processes.

Before the release of Nintendo Switch 2, various concerns were expressed about how the console’s processing power would perform with Unreal Engine 5. Although games such as Cronos: The New Dawn, Fortnite and Split Fiction run on the console, it was observed that these productions could not use basic features such as Lumen and Nanite.

New Optimizations and Future Prospects

In the world of game development, the features offered by Unreal Engine 5 continue to be constantly updated and improved. In particular, new technologies such as Lumen Irradiance Cache can help the console run this demanding game engine more efficiently.

The optimizations to be made for Yoshi and The Mysterious Book are expected to be taken as an example by other developer studios in the future. The game, which will be released on May 21, will show what kind of performance balance Nintendo will establish with this new technology.

Do you think Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to run all the features of Unreal Engine 5 at full capacity?
