macOS 27 Golden Gate Released: Here Are All the Key New Features

Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate. Discover the new Siri AI, Liquid Glass design, Safari improvements, and Apple Intelligence features.

Apple officially released its new operating system, macOS 27 Golden Gate, to all users worldwide today, following months of extensive beta testing. First introduced at this year’s WWDC event, the new software comes with a new Siri AI based on Google Gemini, improved Liquid Glass design details, and revolutionary features for Safari. With this update, based on the Apple Intelligence framework, the tech giant aims to provide Mac users with a smarter, faster, and visually more integrated experience. Users with a compatible Mac computer can quickly download and install the update via System Settings.

  • macOS 27 Golden Gate integrates the new Siri AI based on Google Gemini and Apple Intelligence features into the system.
  • The Liquid Glass design language gets a more contemporary look with customizable transparency settings and redesigned application icons.
  • The addition of “Notify Me” and the ability to create extensions in natural language to the Safari browser enrich the user experience.
  • With the new version, Rosetta support ends, marking a significant step in Apple’s silicon transition.

Liquid Glass Design is Made More Visually Refined

The refreshed look introduced with macOS 26 Tahoe is taken to a much more mature point in macOS 27 Golden Gate. Apple is bringing the visual enhancements introduced with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 to the Mac platform, providing system-wide visual consistency. The newly added Liquid Glass slider allows users to customize the transparency or opacity level of system windows as desired.

Apple has also prepared a small surprise for users in the settings menu. The “Clarus the Dogcow” icon that appears when you scroll to the bottom of the demo panel is a nostalgic nod to the brand’s past. Application icons have also been redesigned in a form that matches the Liquid Glass aesthetic. The new icons have additional layers that offer depth and detail in light, dark, colored, and completely transparent system settings.

The window control buttons (traffic lights) in the system also benefit from this change. The old plain colored buttons have been replaced by Liquid Glass-look buttons that give a fun bouncing effect when clicked or dragged. Additionally, the curvature ratios of window corners are standardized system-wide, resulting in a more streamlined interface.

New Siri AI Deeply Integrated into the System

The most striking feature of macOS 27 Golden Gate is the revamped Siri, developed in collaboration with Google’s Gemini model. The new Siri is no longer just a voice assistant, but a fully-fledged AI hub accessible via Spotlight and a dedicated application. The system indexes user data on the device, providing much more individual and contextual responses.

The Siri application comes with a design similar to the contemporary AI conversational interfaces users are accustomed to. Past conversations are listed on the left panel, while the main panel offers options for typing text, attaching documents, or giving voice commands. Siri can now offer actionable suggestions using information from the web and the user’s current screen context.

With developers using the App Intents framework, Siri will be able to perform complex tasks within third-party applications. Additionally, thanks to the “Ask Siri” option added to the right-click menu, selected text or images can be instantly analyzed, text can be reprinted, or their tone can be changed.

Apple Intelligence Models Make Everyday Tasks Smarter

Apple has developed new versions of Apple Intelligence models for its 2027 operating system releases. macOS 27 Golden Gate uses on-device AFM 3 Core and AFM 3 Core Advanced models, while relying on cloud-based AFM 3 Cloud models for more complex processes. These models save users time in many areas, from creating email drafts to summarizing long documents.

Thanks to the newly added “Visual Intelligence” shortcut (Command-Shift-Space), users can select a random area of the screen and ask Siri questions about that area. This feature works seamlessly on images, PDF documents, and websites.

However, it should be noted that Apple Intelligence features do not work on every Mac model. To use these features, you need a MacBook Neo (2026) or a Mac model with an M1 chip or newer processor. Although the system supports many languages, including Turkish, it may offer limited features in some areas due to regulatory restrictions.

Innovative Tracking and Organization Features Added to Safari Browser

Safari gets a new feature called “Notify Me” with macOS 27. This feature automatically tracks and notifies users of price drops, stock updates, or activity records on the web pages they want to follow.

Another exciting new feature is the “Define Add-on” function. Users can now define the add-on they need using natural language, and Apple Intelligence can create a suitable add-on based on that description. Additionally, a smart organizer that automatically groups tabs by topic has been added to Safari for users who open many tabs.

System Performance and Application Compatibility Significantly Improved

macOS 27 Golden Gate doesn’t just offer visual improvements; it also provides valuable enhancements under the hood. AirDrop transfer speeds are increased, Spotlight indexing and iCloud Photos uploads are optimized, animations in Mission Control and Spaces transitions are smoother, and the issue of maintaining window positions on external screens is resolved.

The Shortcuts app now allows for automation using natural language. The Photos app offers new editing tools, including object removal (Clean Up) and AI-powered photo extension. Finally, it was announced that macOS 27 Golden Gate is the last version to support Rosetta, and in the future, only apps optimized for Apple silicon will be supported.
