WhatsApp has started developing a new feature for iOS that allows people without an account to join calls through a browser.
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow iOS users to invite individuals who do not have the app to conversations directly through their call contacts. This innovation, which is in the testing phase, will allow users without an account to join video or voice calls without having to download any application through a browser.
WhatsApp aims to eliminate communication barriers for users and increase the accessibility of the platform with this feature. Protected by end-to-end encryption technology, these conversations maintain high security standards even for participants without an account. Currently in beta, this development will be rolled out to all iOS users with future updates.
WhatsApp Expands Calling Experience
WhatsApp plans to extend the “guest” access it launched for text-based chats to voice and video calls.
This strategic move aims to make it easier to connect with business partners or groups of friends who do not use the platform. Discovered in the latest iOS beta versions of the app, this feature will work in an integrated form with the existing call contact interface.
How Call Contacts Are Created
Users can quickly create call contacts by going to the “Calls” tab within WhatsApp. Both voice and video call options will be available.
The created contact can be easily shared via WhatsApp or other messaging applications. Additionally, users can add these calls directly to their calendars for scheduling.
Security Measures Are Prioritized
For users without an account, there is an approval mechanism during the call joining process. When someone clicks on a call contact, the party initiating the call must approve the request to join.
This mandatory step aims to create a secure environment by preventing unauthorized participants from joining the call. Additionally, a unique encryption key is generated via the browser for each call session.
Why Guest Calls Matter
Despite having billions of users worldwide, there is still a large audience that does not use WhatsApp. This feature allows users to connect with everyone through their existing application without switching to different platforms.
In this way, guest users who are experiencing the application for the first time are encouraged to create their own accounts over time.
Future Updates Expected
Currently, WhatsApp has not fully rolled out this feature to iOS beta testers. This function, which is still under development, is expected to be made available to the general public in the coming periods.
WhatsApp continues to make the user experience more inclusive and practical with these kinds of innovations.
