Google has started testing a new emoji size setting for Gboard in beta. Users can now customize the size and line density of keyboard emojis.
Google has taken a new step towards personalizing the user experience for its popular keyboard application, Gboard, by introducing the “Emoji size” setting in the beta version. This new feature, included in the Gboard 18.0.3.x beta version, allows users to optimize the size of emoji icons on the keyboard and the number of emojis per row according to their preferences.
Especially in this era where the Pixel 11 series has been announced and 3D emoji designs are prominent, it seems that Google aims to make the details of the new emoji designs easier to see with this update. Accessible via the Settings menu, this new option allows users to configure the keyboard appearance in a more flexible way.
How to Configure Settings?
To activate this new feature, Gboard users should go to the Settings menu within the application, click on Preferences, and then on the Appearance tab. Here, a new slider located just below the existing Font Size setting allows users to customize emoji sizes.
Google provides a preview area in the interface to show the user how the changes will look in real time.
This new setting does not affect the rows in the Emoji Kitchen section, but covers all icons in the standard emoji panel.
Customization Options Available
This feature, currently in testing, is set to display 9 emojis per row by default. Users can reduce this value to 5. Tests on devices like the Pixel 10 Pro show that there are intermediate options such as 8, 8+, 7, 7+, and 6.
Especially the intermediate options with a “plus” sign make the icons more visible by slightly increasing their size while maintaining emoji density.
New Designs are More Clearly Visible
The high-quality 3D emoji designs that Google introduced with the Pixel 11 series offer more detail thanks to this new resizing feature. Users can more easily notice the fine details in emojis by using the option to enlarge the icons. This aims to increase user satisfaction, especially in messaging applications where visual connections are intensive.
Users of the beta version can quickly access this new customization capability with Gboard version 18.0.3.x.
