LG Display is increasing brightness, reducing costs, and extending panel lifespan with its new OLED technology FLiPP, which it introduced at IMID 2026.
LG Display officially introduced FLiPP (FMM – Less Innovative Pixel Patterning) technology, which is set to usher in a new era in display technology, at the IMID 2026 event in South Korea. This new OLED technology, expected to radically change production processes, is particularly noteworthy for eliminating the use of FMM (Fine Metal Mask).
According to the technical information shared by the company, this innovative approach increases screen brightness by 1.6 times, extends panel lifespan by 2.4 times, and improves power efficiency by 13 percent. LG Display aims to use this technology initially in the tablet and monitor segments.
Efficiency Increases in Manufacturing Processes
Fine Metal Mask (FMM) technology, which plays a critical role in traditional OLED manufacturing processes, created significant cost and efficiency challenges in producing high-resolution panels. LG Display’s FLiPP technology aims to completely eliminate this masking requirement, reducing complexity at the production boundary. This not only reduces production costs but also provides greater flexibility in pixel placement on the panel.
FLiPP technology sets a new standard in display manufacturing by eliminating panel size limitations.
Expanding Application Areas
LG Display has announced that it will primarily launch its new OLED technology for high-performance tablets and professional monitors. The power efficiency and long lifespan needs of these devices are perfectly aligned with the advantages offered by FLiPP technology.
The company plans to expand this technology to a wide range of applications in the future, from wearable devices to large-screen televisions. Its scalable nature makes it possible to adapt the technology to any panel size.
Industry analysts predict that this breakthrough by LG Display will intensify competition in the OLED market. In particular, the reduction in production costs could mean that consumers will be able to access higher-quality OLED screens at more affordable prices. This newly developed pixel patterning formula is seen as a critical step in consolidating the company’s leadership in the display market.
This innovation, which doubles the lifespan of OLED screens, is considered a revolutionary development in display technologies.
