Trump Ordered: GPT-5.6 Is Delayed

The Trump administration requested OpenAI to delay the release of its new model, GPT-5.6, and roll it out gradually due to security concerns.

OpenAI is making changes in the release process of its new generation artificial intelligence model GPT-5.6. The Trump administration requested the company to release the model in stages, citing security concerns.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman conveyed this to employees in an internal question-and-answer session last Wednesday. At the request of the federal government, the company will initially offer the GPT-5.6 model only to a limited set of enterprise customers.

Limited access and government approval

During the preview period of the new model, access rights will be under the direct control of the government. The Trump administration will review and approve customers who will access the system during this period on a case-by-case basis.

These restrictions have brought about new debates about the government’s approach to artificial intelligence regulations in the technology sector. The sanctions previously imposed on the Anthropic company had caused increased anxiety in the sector.

Anthropic received an ultimatum to suspend access to the Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models. The administration had issued an export control directive prohibiting individuals of foreign origin from accessing these technologies.

The ban in question also covered workers who worked for Anthropic but were not US citizens. This situation was found to be contradictory with the government’s previously promised policies of supporting rapid technology development and export programs.

Regulatory concerns in the industry

The Trump administration’s attitude towards artificial intelligence has turned into a practice that differs between companies. The phased model implemented for OpenAI exhibits a more flexible structure compared to Anthropic.

The technology world is closely following the effects of these government interventions on the innovation rate. Department representatives question whether the regulations will create an unequal competitive environment between companies.

These steps taken by the government for security reasons may also affect the development processes of future large-scale models. In particular, export controls and access restrictions cause global technology companies to reconsider their strategies.

This approach of the administration also reveals how artificial intelligence technologies will be integrated with national security strategies. It remains unclear how companies will comply with these new regulations.

How do you think governments’ involvement in the launch of artificial intelligence models will affect the technology world?
