The Huawei Mate XT2 price has exceeded the 5,000 Euro mark. Details of the device, which lacks Google services and is not officially sold, are in our news.
Huawei’s new three-fold foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT2, has caused a great stir globally following its launch in the Chinese market. Although the device is not officially sold outside of China, import processes through various intermediaries have pushed its price above 5,000 Euros, presenting a considerably higher cost compared to Apple’s new iPhone Duo model.
This special device, which has attracted intense interest, especially from technology enthusiasts, has started a new debate in the smartphone world with both its design and its astronomical price.
Mate XT2 Offers an Innovative Design
Unlike the Z-shaped folding mechanism seen in previous models, the Huawei Mate XT2 comes with a new hinge structure that folds completely inwards in a U or G shape. This design choice allows the device to have an external screen of approximately 6.5 inches when closed, and a large internal screen of 10.2 inches when opened. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold in the technology world, this system aims to offer users a tablet experience in phone form factor.
Pricing Strategy Varies
The device, which is sold in the Chinese domestic market with a starting price of 19,999 yuan, reaches 24,999 yuan for versions with 1 TB of storage and a hidden screen. However, costs increase significantly for imports from regions such as Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates. Prices listed on platforms such as Trinity Electronics and AverageDad range between 4,000 and 5,000 Euros for 1 TB models. These figures indicate a cost far exceeding that of other high-end foldable phones on the market.
Users Face Technical Obstacles
In addition to the high price, there are some practical challenges awaiting Huawei Mate XT2 users. The absence of Google Mobile Services (GMS) on the device necessitates users to use alternative systems such as microG for accessing the Play Store. Furthermore, the lack of Android Auto or Wear OS support and the absence of eSIM capability are significant disadvantages for users in the global market. The uncertainty surrounding warranty and technical support processes in the gray market also poses a risk factor for potential buyers.
Competition in the Market is Changing
While Apple’s iPhone Duo model has a starting price of around €2,300, Samsung’s foldable solutions are also priced lower than Huawei’s import prices. This shows that the Mate XT2 is positioned not just as a phone, but as a high-cost and difficult-to-obtain status symbol. Available in black, white, and purple, the device requires significant adaptation to daily use despite its innovative hardware.
Do you think the revolutionary three-layer design offered by the Huawei Mate XT2 justifies such a high price tag, or do its technical shortcomings make it merely a collector’s item? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
