Swedish automotive manufacturer Volvo Cars has announced a comprehensive update covering its representatives in the compact segment. According to details shared in the official press release, the refreshed Volvo XC40 , along with its all-electric siblings Volvo EX40 and Volvo EC40 , has received significant innovations in design, cabin technology and driving safety.

“Thor’s Hammer” Touch in Scandinavian Design

With the update for the 2028 model year, the exterior of the vehicles has gained a more modern and confident stance. In the front design, the redesigned grille, shaped hood and fenders, as well as the “Thor’s Hammer” headlight signature with matrix LED technology are noteworthy.

At the rear, the XC40 and EX40 models switch to an updated bumper design with new LED taillights. The EC40 coupé-SUV retains its iconic rear line, while the mild hybrid XC40 offers new diamond-cut wheel options in 18, 19, and 20-inch sizes.

AI Revolution in the Cabin: 11.2-Inch Screen with Google Gemini Power

The most tangible innovation inside is the larger and clearer 11.2-inch touchscreen integrated into the center console. Carrying Volvo’s latest user interface, this system speeds up menu access, allowing the driver to perform tasks without taking their eyes off the road.

At the heart of the infotainment system is Google’s new generation AI assistant

Gemini . Drivers can plan routes, manage their notifications, and control vehicle functions with voice commands using natural language. The cabin also features Arianne Cardamom leather upholstery, brown softwood trim, and updated cabin lighting.

Safety Equipment Enhanced with Radar and Sensor Network

Strengthening its safety vision with a new software and sensor platform, the brand has added front/rear radar units, a new front camera, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to the vehicle. Thanks to these features, the vehicle can analyze its surroundings more precisely in 360 degrees.

  • Door Opening Alert: When the door is opened while parked, it detects cyclists or vehicles approaching from behind and warns passengers.

  • Advanced Pilot Assist: Updated with lane change assist, the system offers a smoother ride on long journeys.

  • Automatic Emergency Response: Emergency braking and automatic steering intervention to avoid collisions provide real-time reactions.

Up to 584 Kilometers of Electric Range

Playing a critical role in the transition to fully electric mobility, the Volvo EX40

offers up to 575 kilometers on a single charge according to WLTP standards. It offers driving possibilities up to 584 kilometers. The Volvo EC40 , which stands out with its aerodynamic roof structure, increases the range to 584 kilometers . Software is always kept up-to-date with wireless updates (OTA) offered over the internet for all models in the series. Volvo has opened orders for the new 40 series, including the “Black Edition” package with black logo and darkened wheel details, in certain markets. Mass production of the vehicles will begin in the autumn months. It is currently unknown when it will arrive in our country.

The renewed Volvo XC40, EX40 and EC40 have been introduced. Check out the new series, which comes with a Google Gemini integrated screen, enhanced safety and a range of 584 km.
