Apple is preparing to end the decade-long wait for a touchscreen MacBook series in October. This new model will appear as part of the MacBook Pro series, featuring significant design changes. Reliable sources in the industry seem to agree that Apple will introduce a MacBook Pro model with true touchscreen support by the end of this year. Details such as the Sidecar support seen in macOS 27 and the redesigned menu bar indicate that this change will also be supported on the software side.
Touchscreen and Design Innovations
Abandoning the rejected touchscreen idea, Apple plans to use Tandem OLED display technology in the new MacBook Pro model. This technology, which we also saw in iPad Pro models, offers more vibrant colors, higher contrast, and increased brightness thanks to overlapping OLED panels.
Some changes are also planned for the chassis of the new MacBook Pro. It is stated that the device will have a slightly thinner and lighter design compared to current models.
Whether this design change will affect the thermal performance of the device remains a matter of curiosity. Apple is conducting meticulous work to maintain aesthetic and functional stability.
Hardware and Software Details
In terms of performance, Apple aims to accelerate the transition to the M7 series by opting for M5 Pro and M5 Max chips instead of M6 Pro and M6 Max processors. This strategy means that chips with a 2nm manufacturing process will be left for the next stage.
On the software side, Apple is working on special optimizations to improve the touch experience. When users touch a button, the interface will reveal a new menu structure that offers relevant options based on finger movements.
The system will automatically display the most suitable control sets based on users’ previous interactions. When items in the menu bar are touched, their size will automatically increase for easier selection.
Regarding pricing, it seems that the cost increases due to Apple’s memory crisis in June will be reflected in the sales prices. The 14-inch model is expected to start at $2499, and the 16-inch model at $2999.
There are also rumors that Apple will introduce a more affordable base model MacBook Pro with the M7 processor next spring. Time will tell how these new technological steps will change the user experience.
