Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is preparing to withdraw from the US and European markets due to increasing costs and low demand.
Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus made a strategic decision due to rising consumer electronics prices and low demand for new devices. The company announced this week that it plans to exit the US and European markets.
This decision is considered as part of the corporate restructuring process carried out within the parent company Oppo. It is also stated that OnePlus will reduce its activities in India, one of its largest markets outside of China.
Restructuring and Market Changes
Founded in 2013 by Pete Lau and Carl Pei, OnePlus initially focused on producing affordable Android phones for technology enthusiasts. Expanding its product range over time, the company managed to reach a valuable user base globally.
Carl Pei, one of the company’s co-founders, left OnePlus in 2020 to establish his own venture, Nothing. After the increase in the prices of its flagship models, OnePlus continued to be present in the affordable phone segment with the Nord series.
Analysts such as IDC and Counterpoint predict that there will be a decrease of more than 13 percent in smartphone shipments due to problems in memory chip supply. Operating as a sub-brand of Oppo, OnePlus is among the sister companies under the umbrella of BBK Electronics.
Sectoral Recession and Future Plans
According to a report by Counterpoint, Oppo faced a double-digit shipment decline on an annual basis in the second quarter of 2026. The report emphasizes that weak demand conditions have led to a significant calm in many of the company’s main markets.

OnePlus aims to continue its activities mainly in the Chinese market in the future. The company plans to focus on selling Realme branded phones abroad in reasonable locations, such as the Scandinavian region, where it is successful.
