Apple’s eagerly awaited foldable model, the iPhone Duo, is attracting attention with its iPhone Duo split screen experience. However, the side-by-side window usage shown in the promotional materials has some significant limitations in terms of size adjustment.

While it’s possible to run two applications simultaneously on the device’s large 7.6-inch foldable screen, customizing the size of the windows is not currently supported. Users cannot make one application take up more space than another by dragging the divider between the applications.

Technical Limitations of the Screen Splitting Feature

When two applications are running on the iPhone Duo, the screen is always split in half at a fixed 50/50 ratio. This situation may be a disappointment for users accustomed to the flexible Split View experience offered on iPad devices for years.

iPad users have been able to resize applications as they wish in landscape mode since 2015. The reason Apple does not offer this flexibility on the iPhone Duo is due to the device’s unique screen geometry.

Both the inner and outer screens are designed with a special aspect ratio of 1:1.4. Each half of the inner screen is almost identical to the outer screen in terms of size and shape.

The even division of the screen provides each application with a standard workspace that it should already support. In addition, this way, it ensures that the dividing line sits neatly at the device’s exact folding point.

If the screen split boundary could be changed by the user, this could lead to a series of intermediate sizes that do not fit properly on the outer screen. It is also argued that this could make it difficult for developers to integrate this support into iPhone applications.

Advantages Offered by the Foldable Screen

Although it doesn’t have a resize feature, the iPhone Duo’s foldable screen brings many different advantages. Users can switch between applications quite quickly in both horizontal and vertical modes.

Opening two different windows of the same application side-by-side is among the functional features offered by the device. Chatting via Messages while looking at the content of another application is also made easier with this screen structure.

Looking at Apple’s promotional images, it can be seen that Apple TV content is displayed in its own brand new aspect ratio. This content creates a special exception by allowing the application below to rise perfectly above the fold line.

Users can also save certain pairs of applications for later use. This feature offers a practical solution for those who want to speed up their daily workflows.

The starting price of Apple’s first foldable model, the iPhone Duo, in Turkey has been set at 230,000 TL. The device will be available for pre-sale starting Friday, October 16th.
