The latest situation and sales figures in the Turkish automotive market according to the August 2026 data shared by ODMD are in our news.
The Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) shared information on the car and light commercial vehicle market in Turkey for August 2026 with the public. According to the published data, the number of new cars and light commercial vehicles sold throughout Turkey in August decreased by 20.28% compared to the same period last year, reaching 81,031.
While the contraction trend in the sector continues to cover the first eight months of the year, the data offers valuable clues about the overall market outlook. The evident decline in car sales is reshaping expectations in the automotive sector in line with economic indicators and market conditions.
The Contraction Trend Continues in the Sector
The data covering the January-August period of 2026 clearly shows that the contraction in the automotive sector continues. During this eight-month period, the total market contracted by 11.91% compared to the same period last year, reaching 719,996 units.
The 13.78% drop in car sales, in particular, resulted in a sales performance of 564,241 units. The light commercial vehicle segment remained at 155,755 units, with a 4.40% loss.
Different Dynamics Observed in August
When examining the August data, it is noteworthy that the car and light commercial vehicle segments showed different reflections. Despite the sharp 25.16% drop in car sales, the light commercial vehicle market recorded a slight increase of 0.34%, reaching 19,502 units.
This indicates that demand in the commercial vehicle segment remained more resilient than passenger cars. Industry representatives attribute this situation to general liquidity and credit conditions in the market.
Five-Year Averages Offer Hope
Despite the contracts experienced on an annual basis, long-term data paints a different picture. Considering the five-year August averages, the total automotive market showed an increase of 4.4 percent.
The same comparison reveals a 2.3 percent expansion in the car market and an 11.6 percent expansion in the light commercial vehicle market. This information shows that the market maintains its growth trend in the five-year projection despite short-term fluctuations.
