New Widget Feature Coming to Android Auto

New Widget Feature Coming to Android Auto

Google has updated its home screen widget support for Android Auto. Details about the new interface and features are in our news.

Google continues to develop the home screen widget support it has been working on for a long time for its popular in-car platform Android Auto. This feature, which appeared last year with the code name “Earth”, gets a much more stable and user-friendly interface with new updates.

Reviews of Android Auto version 16.8.161804-release.daily show that the project is now approaching its final stages. The installation interface, which seems quite complex and incomplete in the first stages, is replaced by a very refined structure similar to the experience on smartphones.

Improved Widget Experience

The feature, previously known only as a code name, now takes its place in the system under the name “Car widgets”. Users are presented with a widget selector that lists highlights and all options, similar to the home screen experience on their phone.

Providing a preview of what widgets will look like when making a selection significantly improves the user experience. In addition, the search bar added to the top of the interface makes reaching the desired widget much faster and more practical.

These innovations stand out as part of the major updates Android Auto has received recently, such as Gemini integration. Although it has not yet been officially announced when Google will make this feature generally available, the upcoming Google I/O event provides a suitable platform for such announcements.

New Weather Icons on the Way

In addition to widget support, there are some small touches on the visual side of Android Auto. The system is preparing to incorporate new and updated icons prepared for the weather card.

Currently, neither widget support nor new weather icons are actively available. However, reviews of APK files show that Google can make these improvements available at any time.

It is worth remembering that such features may not always reach the final version. Still, Google’s meticulous work on the interface signals a more customizable driving experience for Android Auto users.

So, which widgets would you like to see on your car’s screen?
