Gemini Coming to 4 Million Vehicles

Gemini Coming to 4 Million Vehicles

General Motors brings Google Gemini artificial intelligence support to 4 million vehicles of 2022 models and above. Here are the new features and details.

General Motors announced that it will integrate Gemini, Google’s family of productive artificial intelligence models, into 4 million of its vehicles. This update covers Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac brand vehicles that are 2022 models and above and are factory equipped with the Google embedded operating system.

The update in question will be notified to vehicle owners via infotainment screens in the next few months. In order to benefit from this new feature, users must have OnStar connection, log in to their Google Play Store account, and their vehicle language settings must be English.

In-Car Experience with Gemini

Gemini integration offers drivers a more natural and mutual dialogue in in-car command systems. Drivers can plan optimal routes to save fuel or quickly find the nearest charging stations.

The system is not only limited to navigation but can also manage in-car comfort. Users can change air conditioning settings by giving voice commands to Gemini, or have them read incoming text messages and dictate their responses.

On the entertainment side, it becomes possible to create music lists or find podcasts through installed applications such as Spotify, YouTube or Netflix. Google states that in addition to voice commands, buttons on the steering wheel or the microphone icon on the screen can be used to access Gemini.

Artificial Intelligence Transformation in the Automotive Industry

Experts in the automotive world evaluate that this move could create an alternative to phone mirroring technologies such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This strategy of GM coincides with the goal of providing a more independent user experience through the vehicles’ own operating systems.

MotorTrend editor Edward Loh says Gemini is in a strong position against its current rivals. Loh emphasizes that GM’s Android-based operating system integration has been successful and Gemini offers a familiar interface for users.

Tesla’s Grok assistant is currently considered one of the most important competitors in the industry. However, GM’s wide range of vehicles and deep integration with the Google ecosystem provide a significant advantage in this competition.

Do you think these new artificial intelligence-supported in-car assistants will really make the driving experience more efficient?
