A significant change may be on the way for Android Auto users. It appears Google is preparing to introduce new restrictions on Android versions that support Android Auto.

Some users have started receiving warning notifications that their devices will no longer work with Android Auto. This has raised concerns that phones with Android 10 may be excluded from support.

Currently, Android Auto requirements are categorized into two different groups. Android 11 is required for wireless connectivity, while Android 9 Pie is sufficient for wired connectivity.

However, user reports shared on Reddit over the weekend suggest that Google plans to unify these standards. According to information from Android Authority, many drivers are receiving a warning that Android Auto will soon stop working on their phones.

It is noteworthy that a large portion of the users receiving these notifications are using Android 10. Although Google has not yet updated its official support page in this regard, the seriousness of the situation has begun to be discussed among users.

The End of the Road for Older Models

Devices mentioned in reports on Reddit include models such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9, and Xperia XZ2 Compact. These devices still provide users with some special experiences that many modern Android phones cannot offer.

In an era where smartphone prices are constantly increasing, such restrictions can create significant hardship for users. Regardless of how old the hardware is, the discontinuation of Android Auto support for drivers using these phones is considered an unexpected situation.

Especially if you have a device running Android 9 Pie or Android 10, you may need to look for a new way to continue using Android Auto in your car. Switching to a device with at least Android 11 might be a sensible step to avoid encountering these kinds of issues in the long run.

Considering the prices of new devices on the market, this transition process is becoming a costly necessity for many users. However, the navigation and multimedia conveniences offered by Android Auto make this update mandatory for drivers.

No Official Statement Yet from Google

It is currently unknown whether Google will share a definite timeline on this matter. The company has not made any official announcement regarding Android Auto operating system requirements and affected drivers.

While such service interruptions sometimes lead to debates in the technology world, it is thought that Google has chosen this path to maintain its security and performance standards. However, users having to change their devices is a financially burdensome process.

It is stated that Google has been contacted for more information on the subject, but no response has been received yet. A possible statement from the company will provide clarity on the future of Android Auto and which versions will be supported.

If your current smartphone experiences limitations in Android Auto support, are you planning to buy a new device?
