HUAWEI FreeBuds Neo review: We tested the headphones that offer a flagship ANC and high-resolution sound experience in the 6,000 TL segment.
In the wireless headphone market, advanced noise cancellation and high-resolution audio capabilities offered by flagship models are among the most demanded features by users. HUAWEI, with its top-tier audio architecture and noise cancellation technologies developed with the FreeBuds Pro 5, is now bringing them to a much more accessible level. The new HUAWEI FreeBuds Neo, with its technical infrastructure that gives the feeling of a compact FreeBuds Pro 5, brings flagship standards to the 6,000 TL price segment. We put the FreeBuds Neo, which we subjected to a comprehensive testing process in the daily pace of city life, on public transport and in an office environment, on the table to examine its outstanding capabilities and the real experience it offers.
Design and Ergonomics: 4.8 Gram Body Doesn’t Tire the Ear
The first thing you notice when you take the FreeBuds Neo out of the box is its lightness and aerodynamic structure. Each earbud weighs only 4.8 grams. Developed by the HUAWEI R&D team by analyzing thousands of different ear anatomies, the Light Mini Stem design balances the center of gravity towards the inner part of the ear. This evenly distributes the pressure on the earlobe, eliminating the pain sensation in the ear cartilage during long periods of use.
In a scenario where we used the earbuds continuously for 4 hours in the office, we hardly felt their presence. They also do not tend to slip or fall out of the ear during light jogging and sudden head movements outdoors. Thanks to its IP55 certification, it offers resistance to sweat and light rain, which is reassuring for use in sports. The oval charging case, called Mini Shuttle, weighs a total of 41 grams with the earbuds; It easily fits into the lighter pocket of jeans. The product comes in three different color options: Star Silver, Ice White, and Star Black.
Authentic Live Sound: Detailed, Vivid, and Spatial Sound
HUAWEI FreeBuds Neo aims to deliver stable and powerful acoustics in music performance. Its new generation Turbo driver unit covers a wide frequency range between 10 Hz and 48 kHz
. Considering that many standard wireless earbuds remain at the 20 Hz limit, the low-frequency response that can go down to 10 Hz ensures that the bass is heard without being muffled, in a highly controlled and rich manner.
In our listening tests with different music genres, we found that vocals were prominent and instrument separation was surprisingly clear. In acoustic settings, the sound of guitar strings or the vibrations of the contrabass in jazz recordings do not disappear into the background.
The product creates a 360-degree surround sound stage with
Unlimited Spatial Audio
technology activated via the HUAWEI Audio Connect app. This feature enhances the sense of depth regardless of the sound source or operating system. The device can transmit 48 kHz / 24-bit high-resolution lossless audio (up to 2.3 Mbps) with phones in the Huawei ecosystem, while with other Android devices it provides Hi-Res audio transmission at 990 kbps with LDAC codec support.
Adaptive ANC: 30 dB Depth Against City Noise
One of the headphones’ most impressive features is its active noise cancellation (ANC) performance. Supported by a third-generation audio chip and dual-channel architecture, the adaptive algorithm offers up to 30 dB of noise cancellation depth across the full frequency bands. However, the real success lies not in the numbers but in the dynamic operation of the algorithm.
In our tests conducted in the heavy morning traffic of Istanbul, in environments where mechanical hum is at its peak, such as the metro and metrobus, rail and motor noises are largely filtered out. When you move to a crowded cafe, the system automatically detects the noise profile of the environment and balances the pressure; Thus, it provides focus without creating an uncomfortable vacuum feeling in the ear.
The AI-powered speech awareness mode in the headphones reduces the music volume and activates Awareness mode as soon as you start talking to someone. When the conversation ends, the music and ANC automatically return to their previous levels.
Phone Calls and Microphone Test in Noisy Environments
FreeBuds Neo uses a combination of 3 microphones + VPU (Bone Conduction Sensor) to isolate wind and ambient noise during phone calls. The VPU sensor directly detects vibrations in the jawbone during a conversation, separating your voice from background noise in the air. In conversations we conducted on a busy street with 95 dB of noise and in a windy open area, the other party could hear our voice clearly and understandably, with almost no traffic noise.
The retail price of HUAWEI FreeBuds Neo is 6,999 TL. Consumers who make a 99 TL down payment between September 28th and October 6th can have this amount credited as a 1,399 TL discount on their orders during the remaining payment period between October 6th and 16th. FreeBuds Neo is also available with a 3-installment option of 2,333 TL x 3.
Battery Life, Cross-Platform Connectivity and Smart Controls
FreeBuds Neo offers up to 10 hours of continuous music playback in standard mode on a single charge, and approximately 6.5 hours with ANC enabled. With the charging case, the total usage time reaches up to 40 hours . These values mean that for a heavy user who leaves home in the morning, listens to music all day, and attends meetings, charging the case only once a week will be sufficient.
The headphones are fully compatible with Android, iOS, and Windows platforms. Dual device support means that when you’re editing video or watching a series on your laptop, an invitation is instantly transferred to your phone; and when the call ends, you seamlessly return to the stream on your computer.
Additionally, when the Head Control (Head Movement Control) feature is activated, you can answer or reject incoming invitations simply by tilting your head forward, even when your hands are full. The Pinpoint Game Audio mode, added for portable gamers, makes enemy footsteps and weapon direction more distinct in FPS games.
Overall Assessment
HUAWEI FreeBuds Neo combines the advanced acoustic driver structure, high-resolution LDAC transfer, and 30 dB adaptive ANC performance inherited from the FreeBuds Pro 5 in a lightweight and comfortable body. Offering a flagship experience in both sound depth and noise cancellation in the 6,000 TL price segment, this model is a strong alternative for users who keep up with the pace of city life and don’t take their headphones off their ears all day long.
