Apple’s current entry-level iPad model has remained on the market for over a year without receiving any hardware updates. This device is the only product in Apple’s current core product lineup that lacks Apple Intelligence support.

New leaks suggest that Apple has a more ambitious plan for the model, which has long been expected to be updated with the A18 chip. According to information shared by MacRumors author Aaron Perris, the new generation device is expected to be equipped with the A19 chip.

Technical Specifications and Hardware Details

It is stated that the new model will offer significant innovations not only in the processor but also in communication technologies. The device’s N1 network chip and C1X modem in the cellular version mean this model will have Wi-Fi 7 support.

In terms of memory, the device is said to come with 8GB of RAM. This capacity will allow users to run Siri AI features, while it is predicted that more advanced local models requiring 12GB of memory and advanced dictation features will not be supported.

Delays in the production process are thought to be directly related to the ongoing memory crisis affecting the electronics industry. It is assumed that Apple initially planned an A18-based refresh simultaneously with the M4 iPad Air, but had to postpone this process.

In terms of pricing, Apple increased the price of the entry-level iPad from $349 to $449 this summer. This price increase brought the device back to its initial price point when it was first released in 2022.

In terms of design, no innovations or screen improvements are expected. It is stated that the device will retain its current design and may only offer new color options.

Whether or not the long-awaited USB 3 support will be added remains uncertain. Such an upgrade, offering faster data transfer, could help justify the device’s increased starting price.

Naming and Release Date

Different possibilities are being considered regarding the naming of the new model. It is rumored that Apple may use a distinctive name such as “SE” or “Neo” for the new iPad, as it did with the MacBook Neo launch.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg provides valuable clues regarding the device’s release date. The new generation entry-level iPad is expected to be available to users next spring.

This launch is expected to coincide with other products such as the M6 MacBook Air, A19 Pro MacBook Neo, and M7 14-inch MacBook Pro. If you’re planning to buy an entry-level iPad, which of these new features excites you the most?
