GTA 6 Development Process Is Painful

GTA 6 Development Process Is Painful

The harsh working conditions imposed by Rockstar Games for GTA 6, which will be released on November 19, and the mental health problems experienced by the employees have come to light.

While Rockstar Games was accelerating its efforts to release its highly anticipated game GTA 6 on November 19, a serious crisis broke out within the company. Although Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar management firmly stated that the game would not be postponed, it turned out that the QA (quality assurance) teams within the studio were faced with an intense work schedule that lasted until the early hours of the morning.

Reports shared especially by employees in the Bengaluru office in India reveal that in the final stage of the development process, the staff is trying to cope with an excessive workload that threatens both their physical and mental health.

  • Rockstar Games aims to release Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19.
  • QA analysts complain about unpaid overtime and working hours until 3 am
  • According to internal claims, projects that should take six months are being tried to be fit into short periods of two or three months.
  • Rockstar Games has spent approximately $3 billion on personnel expenses since 2019.

Development Process Negatively Affects Employees’ Mental Health

Internal evaluations shared anonymously on Glassdoor reveal the extent of unrest within Rockstar Games. A QA analyst notes that working conditions have become unbearable and management is ignoring the human needs of employees. According to the reports in question, especially in the last few weeks, working hours have been extending past midnight and until around 03:00 in the morning.

Excessive workload seriously threatens the mental health of staff.

Working Conditions Are Criticized Despite Financial Investments

The fact that Take-Two Interactive has allocated a huge personnel budget of nearly 3 billion dollars for the GTA 6 project in recent years raises the question of why current working conditions cannot be improved. While most of the resources are transferred to the project, unpaid overtime and intense pressure of field workers create controversy in the sector.

Previous layoffs in the UK and Canadian offices triggered unionization discussions and increased doubts about the company’s corporate culture.

Despite the company’s huge budget, it is a great contradiction that employees do not receive compensation for their efforts.

There is no official statement from the management yet

Although the company management is trying to reassure that the game will be released on time with Strauss Zelnick’s statements, employee dissatisfaction continues. Experts warn that such a ‘crunch’ process is expected, given the size of the project, but that exceeding human limits may cause loss of corporate reputation in the long term.
