Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence Grok can now be used in voice mode in vehicles with Apple CarPlay support. Details are in our news.
Grok, developed by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence initiative xAI and integrated with the social media platform X, gains Apple CarPlay support. With the update released today, users can now ask Grok questions and get information via voice commands without taking their hands off the steering wheel while driving.
With this step, Grok, which previously appeared on CarPlay screens only as a placeholder application, becomes an active assistant in millions of vehicles other than Tesla.
Driving Safety is in the Foreground: No Text, Only Voice
Apple started third-party voice AI applications to allow enter the CarPlay ecosystem with iOS 26.4. However, the technology giant has very strict rules on this issue. To prevent driver distraction, Apple prohibits apps like Grok from displaying any text or visual content on the screen.
Grok Voice mode uses Apple’s proprietary voice control template. When users interact with Grok, there is an interface on the screen that only represents sound waves and up to four action buttons. In this way, drivers focus entirely on the road, instead of dealing with complex menus, and receive assistance from artificial intelligence on issues such as traffic conditions, current news or general cultural information.
Tesla Exceeds Its Limits
As you know, Grok is built into the software of Tesla vehicles. However, Apple CarPlay support expands the user base that Grok appeals to a gigantic size. It is possible to benefit from Grok’s voice assistant features in almost every vehicle that supports CarPlay, from Ford to Volkswagen, from Fiat to Mercedes.
This move is seen as one of the most important parts of xAI’s strategy to increase its accessibility in the artificial intelligence market.
Apple’s Strict Control Continues
Apple continues to limit the types of applications on CarPlay. This “conversational artificial intelligence” category, added alongside categories such as navigation, music, communication and EV charging applications, goes through a strict approval process.
To use this feature, developers must obtain special authorization from Apple and strictly comply with driver safety protocols. Thanks to this integration, Grok promises a safe driving experience and standardizes the use of digital assistants in cars.
So, would you rather use a third-party AI assistant like Grok or ChatGPT instead of Siri while you’re driving? Don’t forget to express your thoughts in the comments section below.
