Google is preparing to add a new Gemini shortcut to the bottom navigation bar of the Chrome browser for Android. Here are the details of the new feature.
Google continues to work to make Gemini a more central part of the Chrome experience. The company is now to move the integration it has expanded on the desktop side to the Android platform.
Leopeva64, known for her posts on X, has created a new feature in the redesigned bottom navigation bar in the Android version of Chrome. Gemini buttondetected This shortcut is placed between the Home and Tabs buttons in the user interface.
Chrome’s bottom navigation bar is being refreshed
The new Gemini shortcut is currently only active when Chrome’s navigation bar is moved to the bottom of the screen. Although users have long been able to move the navigation bar down by long-pressing on the address bar or via settings, Gemini integration is included in this interface for the first time.
In the renewed bottom navigation bar system, there is now a back button on the left of the address bar and a three-dot menu on the right. The Gemini shortcut is being tested as a module of this new design.

Gemini will no longer be limited to a single tab
Currently, those who want to use Gemini via Chrome are directed to the Gemini application on their phones and can only ask questions about the currently open web page. The new integration being tested places Gemini directly into the Chrome browser.

In this way, the aim is to enable Gemini to process content in more than one open tab. This approach aims to provide an experience closer to the Gemini sidebar in desktop Chrome.
Although Leopeva64 managed to make the feature work, the distribution of the feature seems to be quite limited now. Although the new bottom toolbar is enabled for many Android users using Chrome version 150, the Gemini button is now not visible for many people. It is not yet clear when Google will make this feature generally available.
