The Izmir Data Center, a joint venture between Vodafone Turkey and global digital infrastructure provider DAMAC Digital, has officially opened. The facility, inaugurated with the participation of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, and whose first phase was completed with a $100 million investment, strengthens Turkey’s information sovereignty and cloud infrastructure while directly addressing artificial intelligence workloads. Located in Gaziemir, the center, covering 7,500 square meters of indoor space, is Vodafone’s sixth data center in Türkiye.

Digital Hub of the Aegean: $100 Million First Phase

Completed in just 1.5 years with a 50-50 joint venture between Vodafone Turkey and DAMAC Digital, the center establishes a critical bridge between corporate companies in the region and national and international networks. Initially commissioned with over 650 cabinets and a power capacity of 4 MW, the facility operates using a colocation (server hosting) model.

This allows companies to host their critical IT operations at this center with 24/7 remote technical support and high-level security standards, without incurring costly independent infrastructure investments.

Capacity to Reach 20 MW Level

In line with the plans, the investment price in the Izmir Data Center is targeted to reach $300 million in the long term, and the total operational capacity is aimed to be gradually increased to 20 MW. This expansion aims to transform the Aegean Region into a valuable data traffic and communication center in the Mediterranean basin.

Tier III Standard, Seismic Protection and Generative Artificial Intelligence Support

Built in accordance with international Tier III design criteria, the facility offers uninterrupted power and operational continuity. Equipped with seismic isolator technology against possible natural disaster risks, the building ensures that information flow continues uninterrupted even during an earthquake.

One of the most striking technical aspects of the facility is its compatibility with next-generation GPU infrastructure. In addition to standard cloud and cybersecurity services, deep learning and generative AI models requiring high processing power can be run with domestic resources through this scalable infrastructure.

Vodafone’s 6th Data Center in Turkey

Celebrating its 20th year in the Turkish market and having made real investments of 600 billion TL to date, Vodafone has increased the number of its data centers in the country to six with its Izmir expansion. The existing network infrastructure, which processes over 100 petabytes of data every month, offers corporate customers much lower latency solutions in cloud computing, managed services, and disaster recovery with the new facility in İzmir.
