WhatsApp has started testing a new feature that allows users to directly connect with third-party spies and AI bots from within the application. This new feature, seen in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.35.3, allows users to add their chosen spies to the platform and interact with them through private chat windows.

Currently available to a limited user base, this feature allows users to manage complex tasks without switching to other applications. WhatsApp aims to gradually roll out this new functionality to more users.

AI Agents Operate Within the App

Unlike simple chatbots, AI spies have the ability to process complex requests based on meaning and username. Until now, using such tools required external websites or special applications. WhatsApp simplifies this process by allowing users to configure their spies directly through the application settings. This allows users to easily add their preferred spies, give them names, and assign profile pictures.

Connection Established with API Keys

The system’s basic operating principle is based on unique API keys generated for each spy. Users complete the connection by entering the API key they created in the relevant section of the application settings into the platform where the spy is hosted. After the connection is established, users can start a private chat with the spy. If there is a problem with the connection or the key needs to be renewed, users can easily create a new key from the menu.

Chat Privacy and Security Measures

WhatsApp clearly states the privacy standards for this feature. Conversations with spies, unlike personal messages, do not have end-to-end encryption. This means that the content of the messages can be seen by the spy developers. However, WhatsApp guarantees that these spies will not be able to access the user’s other private chats, contacts, or media documents. Therefore, users are advised to be careful when choosing the information they will share with spies.

Agent Management and Chat History are Stored

Users can update or remove their spies from the application settings at any time. Removing a spy from a chat immediately terminates the messaging feature, but it does not automatically delete the previous chat history. Past notifications remain readable for users. If a spy wants to reconnect, the process needs to be restarted with a new API key.

Feature is Being Rolled Out Gradually

This feature, currently being tested by some WhatsApp beta users, will be rolled out to a wider audience in the coming months. If you don’t see the “Agents” section in the settings menu, you may need to wait for future updates for the feature to be defined on your device. WhatsApp continues to observe how this new experience will facilitate users’ daily workflows.
