Future James Bond Games Will Be Under the Control of Amazon Games

Future James Bond Games Will Be Under the Control of Amazon Games

Following the success of 007 First Light, Amazon Games announced its strategy and control of future James Bond games.

007 First Light, which was recently released, achieved remarkable success by selling 1.5 million copies in the first 24 hours. This sales number shows that developer studio IO Interactive has made a faster start than the games in the Hitman series.

This early success of the game has largely guaranteed the future of the sequels of the series. However, Amazon Games executives state that publishing and development processes will change in future projects.

Amazon Games and the Future of the James Bond Series

Jeff Gattis, general manager of Amazon Games game unit, made important statements about the rights of the 007 First Light game. Stating that Amazon does not have all the rights to the current game, Gattis said that future sequels will be prepared in cooperation with MGM and Amazon Game Studios.

Gattis emphasized that the agreement with IO Interactive for the 007 First Light project took place before Amazon acquired the intellectual property rights. The company’s strategy is to expand its intellectual properties in an integrated way with video games, movies and television series. In this context, it is aimed to support projects such as the Tomb Raider series, which will be broadcast on the Prime Image platform, simultaneously with the relevant games.

Strategic Investments and AAA Game Goals

Amazon Games has had difficulty reaching large audiences in the past with projects it developed within itself, such as Crucible and King of Meat. The company now aims to gain a permanent place in the AAA gaming market through major brands such as James Bond and Tomb Raider.

The ending of 007 First Light leaves many open doors for the continuation of the story. Amazon takes an approach that focuses primarily on content production and prioritizes financial return in its large enterprise investments. Whether the collaboration with IO Interactive will continue or is not eagerly awaited in the gaming world.

Do you think Amazon’s strategy of bringing these big brands to the gaming world will be successful?
