Electric Truck Tesla Semi Hits European Roads: 550 Km Range

Electric Truck Tesla Semi Hits European Roads: 550 Km Range

Tesla, Europe, Semi, Charging, Range

Tesla is preparing to launch its long-awaited electric truck model, the Tesla Semi, into the European market. Ahead of the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hanover, the company shared all the technical details of the version specifically designed for the continent. Initially launched in the Standard Range version, the vehicle offers a range of up to 550 kilometers with a total load capacity of 40 tons. This model aims to start a new era in the heavy vehicle segment, particularly with its focus on high transport capacity.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The Tesla Semi comes with a three-axle 6×4 traction configuration and produces a total of 800 kW of power with three independent electric motors located on the two rear axles. The vehicle is stated to operate with a power consumption of 1 kWh/km and offer high efficiency.

Keeping its unladen load below 9,100 kilograms, the truck provides a significant advantage in terms of load capacity. With a standard European trailer of approximately 6.3 tons, it can carry 24.6 tons of cargo, up to a legal limit of 40 tons.

Range data is based on detailed calculations made under conditions of a total weight of 40 tons, a speed of 80 km/h, a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, and flat roads. Tesla emphasizes that factors such as tire selection, aerodynamic equipment, and trailer type can significantly alter these figures.

The cabin design features a central driving position, offering the driver a wide field of vision. In addition to headroom allowing the driver to stand, comfort-focused details such as heated and ventilated seats are included in the interior.

Charging Infrastructure and Service Network

Tesla plans to offer two different charging solutions for Semi in Europe. Megacharger stations provide up to 800 kW of DC charging boost, enabling rapid power transfer during short breaks and increasing operational efficiency.

With this system, approximately 60% of the range can be recovered in 30 minutes of charging. For overnight charging or storage use, the 120 kW Basecharger solution comes into play.

The company states that with the 120 kW system, the range can be increased by up to 60% in four hours of charging. Maintenance processes will be professionally managed through dedicated Semi Service Centers to be established across Europe, licensed service centers, and portable support groups.

Remote diagnostics and wireless software updates aim to reduce maintenance and operational costs for fleets. Additionally, the Tesla for Business platform will be made available to Semi customers, simplifying fleet management.

Competition and Delivery Plan

The Tesla Semi will face strong Competitors in terms of range on European roads, such as the Volvo FH Aero Electric and Renault Trucks E-Tech T. Volvo offers a range of up to 700 kilometers, while Renault offers up to 660 kilometers, giving them an advantage in this area.

The company will hold the European launch of the vehicle at the IAA Transportation fair in Hanover between September 15-20. Pricing information and exact sales dates will likely be clarified at this important event.

Tesla plans to begin customer deliveries of the Semi model in Europe in 2027. How do you think the Tesla Semi will perform against its Competitors in the European heavy vehicle market?

The Tesla Semi is preparing to enter the European market with a range of 550 km and 800 kW charging support. Here are all the technical details of the electric truck.
