Classic Xbox Games Can Now Be Played on PC

Xbox is expanding its game library by porting some of its classic games, released 26 years ago, to the PC platform. This breakthrough reveals what role current-generation Xbox consoles will play in the transition to the future PC-based ecosystem.
Xbox offers four classic games to PC users in the first place within the scope of its backward compatibility program. Productions named Fuzion Frenzy, BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Conker: Live and Reloaded can now be played directly on the PC without requiring emulation.
A New Era for PC and Handheld Consoles
These games are accessible through the Xbox app and are also available for Game Pass subscribers. In addition, this step enables games to be played on Windows-based handheld consoles such as Asus ROG Xbox Ally X or MSI Claw 8 EX AI +.
Xbox states that it has made various technical improvements to make the games suitable for the PC experience. Users can now take advantage of customizable graphics settings, improved anti-aliasing, and up to 4x scaling options from 480p resolution.
The company also plans to add achievements to these brand new Xbox games in the coming months. These improvements help games deliver a clearer view on modern monitors.
Project Helix and Future Vision
Behind this attack lies Xbox’s new generation console strategy called Project Helix. It is aimed for future consoles to work like a PC and operate on the Windows operating system.
Xbox aims to make existing console games and other platforms such as Steam compatible with future hardware. ProjectHelixXbox plans to transition from a closed console ecosystem to more open PC hardware.
Jason Ronald, Xbox’s Vice President of next-generation consoles, points out the importance of carrying the game library into the future.
