Google continues its preparations to renew the media player interface on the Android Auto platform. Although the new design offers a visually simpler structure, it brings significant improvements in functionality.

Since Android Auto’s current dashboard design launched in 2023, the media player widget has remained largely identical. While album covers occupy a large area in the current structure, control buttons are located just below the song information.

More control options

The new interface being developed aims to use the media player widget more efficiently. In this design, the album image is reduced and placed in the center, and the module information is placed below it.

The new layout allows users to access more control buttons. In addition to the standard play/pause and cut skip buttons, additional options such as shuffle, repeat and like are added to the interface.

The variety of these buttons may vary depending on the application used. For example, it is stated that there may be different controls specific to podcast broadcasts in YouTube Music or other media applications.

A blurred version of the album image is used in the background of the widget. It is not yet clear when the design will be made available to users or whether it will be made available for general use.

Future updates and expectations

Google is expected to test this new design first in the beta version. This innovation prepared for Android Auto may be a module of a more comprehensive update planned for later in the year.

For now, there are still some expected features in the system. Improvements such as open mode, which can be manually activated, especially in screen scenes, are among the issues that users follow carefully.
