YouTube introduced supervised children’s accounts in Türkiye. This innovation, which includes content filtering for parents, Shorts duration limitation and advanced viewing controls, allows children to safely explore the digital world.
This system, supported by innovative tools such as the Shorts flow scheduler, a first in the industry, aims to put young people’s online discovery processes in a safe framework.
Highlights about YouTube Supervised Kids Accounts:
Age Appropriate Content Moderation:Three different content settings are offered depending on the age and development level of children: “Discover”, “Discover More” and “Most of YouTube”.
Advanced Parental Control:Parents can set a daily time limit for Shorts images and can turn off this flow completely if desired.
Digital Wellbeing Tools:While healthy viewing habits are encouraged with “Take a Break” and “Bedtime” reminders, features such as commenting and content creation are disabled for security purposes.
Creating a Safe Exploration Area
YouTube supports children to consume content within strict limits and in a safe environment, rather than completely isolating them from the digital world. The newly launched supervised accounts actually constitute the most current link of the “family safety” vision that YouTube has been working on for many years.
As YouTube Turkey Director Esin İmer Haşlaman stated, the fact that the platform has held an important place in the daily lives of families in Turkey for more than 14 years makes such an arrangement inevitable. Research proves that 77% of parents see YouTube as a critical resource for accessing free educational content.
Content Filtering and Personalization Options
The system allows families to filter content in three main categories:
Discover:Educational content includes basic content such as instructional images, handicrafts and dance images.
Discover More:In addition to the “Discover” category, it enables access to game footage and live broadcasts.
Most of YouTube:It makes a wide range of content accessible to children, excluding content aged 18 and over.
These settings work compatible with international content rating systems. Additionally, personalized ads are disabled in these accounts and the autoplay feature is turned off. In this way, children are prevented from being exposed to irrelevant or inappropriate content under the guidance of algorithms.
Special Timer for Shorts Flow
Short video streams are one of the areas where today’s young people spend the most time. At this point, YouTube is implementing the “Shorts stream scheduler”, which is the first in the department.
Parents can set a daily limit for how long their children can watch Shorts. When the deadline expires, the flow can be stopped completely. This creates a very critical control mechanism for parents who want to manage the time their children spend in front of the screen.
How to Install?
Creating supervised child accounts is a very easy process. The features, which are gradually becoming available as of July 2, can be accessed in the YouTube application or on the website.
