Chinese manufacturers have developed a custom RTX 5090 model with 96 GB of VRAM, which was not officially released by Nvidia. This 96 GB VRAM RTX 5090 modification process is attracting attention in the technology market by tripling the memory capacity of standard models.

On Alibaba, these custom cards are listed with a starting price of $3,888. Some sellers are asking prices up to $5,900 for modified cards with similar specifications.

Technical Details and Conversion Process

The modification is based on a comprehensive change in the memory infrastructure of the graphics card. A special PCB design is used that allows GDDR7 memory chips to be placed on both sides of the card.

This design change increases the standard 32 GB capacity to 96 GB. A specially prepared firmware software is required for the card to recognize this new memory configuration.

Technically, this upgrade is possible thanks to Nvidia’s professional analysis. The GB202 GPU architecture used in the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell model provides the basis for this modification by offering 96 GB memory support.

However, it is worth noting that not all announcements on the market are reliable. Some listings show the use of older GDDR6X memory instead of GDDR7, with speeds remaining at around 14 Gbps.

There are also 128 GB prototypes listed with a price tag of $13,000. It is important to remember that these models are not mass-produced but rather limited-edition special projects.

AI-Focused Use and Warranty Risks

The primary target audience for these modified cards is not so much gamers, but rather users involved with AI applications. High VRAM capacity allows for large language models and intensive AI workloads, enabling data to be stored in GPU memory.

US export restrictions on Nvidia’s data center GPUs are increasing demand for these types of modifications in the Chinese market. While Nvidia offers official solutions like the RTX 5090D V2 for the Chinese market, these cards have various limitations in terms of performance and memory.

Similar modification processes are not actually a new development for the industry. Workshops in China had previously managed to increase the VRAM capacity of RTX 4090 models from 24 GB to 48 GB.

Although these processes have become more feasible over time, the 96 GB RTX 5090 models have a significant disadvantage. Nvidia does not offer any warranty for these hardware modifications that are not officially supported.

Users completely waive the manufacturer’s warranty when purchasing these cards. The high price of $3,888 brings with it a significant risk of reliability and technical issues.
