Which Ads Are Banned on Apple Maps?

Apple announced the prohibited categories for ads in the Maps application. Here are all the details about home services and other restrictions.

Apple has published a new advertising services policy for ads in the Maps application. The company detailed the advertising categories that it will not allow to be shown in the application within the scope of this policy.

Ads will not be displayed on Apple Maps in categories such as home services, bail services and cryptocurrency ATMs. In particular, the ban on ads covering residential services such as plumbing, electricity, lock repair, pest control and general contracting distinguishes Apple’s approach in this area from Google.

Advertising Policy and Restrictions

Apple aims to keep ads in the Maps app limited to businesses with a physical location. Advertisements containing medical services are not among the prohibited categories and will be evaluated separately for each case.

Ads on Maps must also comply with Apple’s general advertising guidelines. Tobacco products, alcohol, gambling, financial products, weapons, ammunition and violent content will not be included in the application. Additionally, advertisements for products that are deceptive, fraudulent, defamatory or compete with Apple hardware are not allowed.

Political ads, unproven health products and inappropriate content are also on the banned list. Apple will start showing ads through the Maps app in the United States and Canada starting this summer.

User Privacy and Ad Experience

Ads will appear in the search results and Recommended Places section in the Maps application. All advertisements will be clearly marked with the “Advertisement” tag.

Apple states that users’ position information or the ads they interact with will not be associated with their Apple accounts. The company emphasizes that it does not collect advertising information and does not share this information with third parties.

What do you think about this advertising strategy in Apple’s Maps application?
