WhatsApp has introduced a new search shortcut feature for chats and channels on the iOS platform, aiming to improve user experience on its popular messaging app. This feature, included in the latest version of WhatsApp Messenger (version 26.36.74), allows users to quickly search through messages without leaving the chat screen.

The search button, which appears just below the navigation bar, significantly shortens the time it takes to find the information you’re looking for, especially in long chats or channels with a high volume of content. Currently being rolled out gradually to all users worldwide, this innovation aims to make messaging traffic more practical.

Search Shortcut Improves User Experience

Previously, users who wanted to search within a chat had to follow time-consuming steps to access the chat information and open the search menu there. With the new design change, this process can now be done with a single touch. WhatsApp, after testing, has made this feature, announced in August, available to users in the final version. The search button appears at the top of the screen when the user scrolls up in a chat and automatically hides when scrolling down again.

Design Preferences Being Reshaped

Although the bottom of the screen was considered during development, the WhatsApp design team decided that the top was more efficient in terms of user interaction. This strategic positioning prevents overlaps with other control buttons at the bottom of the screen, offering a cleaner interface. In this way, the search function remains functional and doesn’t interrupt the chat flow.

Search Process Speeded Up for Channels

The new search shortcut is not limited to individual and group chats; it also applies to channels. In channels with a large number of posts, manually finding past updates could be quite cumbersome. Now, channel users can access the content they want in seconds using the shortcut at the top of the screen again. This provides great convenience, especially for users who follow news feeds.

Update is being rolled out gradually

This feature is currently available to a group of users with version 26.36.74 of WhatsApp Messenger updated via the App Store. The company stated that the feature will reach users worldwide in the coming weeks.
