Volkswagen’s Chinese subsidiary SAIC-Volkswagen is expanding its product range with the new electric SUV model ID. Era 5X. This vehicle was first publicly announced by being listed in the official vehicle catalog of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The ID. Era 5X stands out as the first fully electric representative of the brand’s ID. Era family. The model is the first mass-produced vehicle based on Volkswagen’s globally used Compact Main Platform (CMP) infrastructure.

This platform, developed in collaboration with Xpeng, forms the technical infrastructure of the vehicle. In addition, the car uses the CEA electric architecture, which complies with contemporary electric vehicle standards.

What will the Volkswagen ID. Era 5X offer?

In terms of design, the ID. Carrying the characteristic lines of the Era family, the model features a daytime running light strip that extends lengthwise across the front. The side profile of the vehicle reflects a sporty fastback silhouette, while the spoiler at the rear completes the design.

With dimensions befitting its prestige, the vehicle has a length of 4,560 mm, a width of 1,896 mm, and a height of 1,630 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm. Users can choose from various equipment options, including different wheel choices ranging from 17 to 19 inches, as well as a panoramic glass roof.

On the technology side, a new generation LiDAR sensor and the Xingyun intelligent driving assistance system are included in the vehicle. This system promises L2++ level autonomous driving capabilities in urban traffic.

Inside the cabin, there is the Yunqi intelligent cockpit system, developed to optimize driver-vehicle interaction. Powered by an electric motor producing 155 kW, or 208 horsepower, the vehicle gets its power from a CATL-produced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

It may also come to Europe

Currently, technical details such as the model’s range and battery capacity have not been shared. However, it is known that Volkswagen has plans to bring its ID. Era series models, developed in China, to the European market.
