The Era of Turning Off Bing Begins in Windows 11

The Era of Turning Off Bing Begins in Windows 11

Microsoft is working on a new feature in Windows 11 Search that allows you to completely turn off Bing and web results.

For years, Windows 11 users have been complaining about the Windows Search experience, which highlights web results instead of local documents. Microsoft is preparing to take a new step that will change this situation in line with the feedback received.

The company is working on a new setting that allows completely disabling web results and Bing integration in Windows Search. Thanks to this feature, users will be able to limit their search results to local documents only.

Locally Focused Experience in Windows Search

Microsoft is testing extensive improvements to make Windows Search faster and more systematic. The newly developed feature will allow users to close web searches and Microsoft Store listings with a single switch.

Currently, users who want to remove web integration have to make complex changes to the Windows Registry. With the new update, this process will become manageable through an easy settings menu.

With the June 2026 update, Windows Search now ranks local results above web results even when just two characters are entered. This arrangement significantly speeds up the search engine’s access to users’ local documents.

Another innovation in the search experience stands out as substring reinforcement. Now, users can search by typing not only the beginning of a document name, but also a random set of words in it.

Significant Improvements in Search Experience

In order to make Windows Search more functional, Microsoft aims to separate web-based components such as Copilot, MSN and Rewards from the search results. These changes will make it easier to find documents, especially those with complex document names.

These new features, which are in the testing phase, are expected to be available to Windows Insider users in the next few weeks. With these steps, the company aims to increase users’ control over the operating system.

What do you think about these changes to the search experience of Windows 11?
