The end of the road is in sight for Samsung Galaxy S22

The end of the road is in sight for Samsung Galaxy S22

Samsung introduced the May 2026 update for the Galaxy S22. Devices that will receive One UI 8.5 will not be able to receive One UI 9.0.

Samsung continues its software support in the smartphone world without slowing down and proves once again that it has not forgotten its old flagship models. The company is officially releasing the May 2026 security update for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra models, which were released in 2022 and marked their era.

This new software package, which started in South Korea and is expected to spread to global markets in a short time, closes critical security vulnerabilities in devices and also brings an important turning point for the future of the series.

Because this update stands out as one of the most important steps before the last major interface transition of the Galaxy S22 family.

Critical Security Vulnerabilities Are Closed: What Does the Update Offer?

Samsung’s software development group is working hard these days. While the company is working on the future operating system One UI 9.0, it also continues to distribute the One UI 8.5 interface and monthly security patches for existing devices.

The May 2026 security update released for the Galaxy S22 series completely eliminates 36 different vulnerabilities detected throughout the system. This package, which comes with the firmware code S90xNKSS9GZE5, has a download size of approximately 506.30 MB.

Security patches play a vital role in protecting smartphones against cyber attacks and securing user data. With this update, Samsung closes both the patches offered by Google in the Android operating system and the systemic vulnerabilities discovered in its own special interface.

This small but effective software that optimizes hardware performance also increases the overall stability of the phone.

One UI 8.5 Release and End of Update Supplement for Galaxy S22

For Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra owners, this update period brings with it mixed feelings. The models in question are the oldest Galaxy S series devices eligible to receive One UI 8.5, Samsung’s new generation customized interface.

The One UI 8.5 interface offers users a more contemporary visual design, renewed animations and a number of new features that will extend the life of the device. This interface, which will breathe new life into old hardware, aims to significantly improve the daily usage performance of phones.

Will One UI 9.0 Update Come?

However, there is another side to the coin. The Galaxy S22 series, which is approaching the end of the update schedule that Samsung has promised in the past, cannot receive another major Android or interface update after the One UI 8.5 version.

Sources close to the company confirm that these devices will not be included in the One UI 9.0 update list. This means that One UI 8.5 will be the definitive and last major stop for the Galaxy S22 family. After this step, phones continue to be supported only with periodic security patches.

How to Install Galaxy S22 Update?

Samsung is rolling out the new software package gradually. For this reason, the distribution, which started in South Korea, is expected to reach users in Turkey within a few days.

When the update reaches your device, you may see an alert in the top notification panel. However, if you want to manually check for the update and install it quickly, you can follow these easy steps:

  1. your phone SettingsEnter the menu.

  2. Located at the bottom of the menu software updateTap .

  3. From the screen that appears Download and installPerform control by pressing the button.

If the update is active for your region, your device starts the download process. Considering that the update size is approximately 500 MB, it is recommended that you download it over a stable Wi-Fi network instead of your cellular data and make sure that your battery is at least 50% before installing.
