Apple is conducting tests on an iPhone 19 Pro prototype whose screen is curved to surround all four edges of the device. According to information shared by a China-based leak source, this device for the 2027 model year is currently in the evaluation phase.

While the prototype in question has a hole on the screen for the front camera, the Face ID system is completely hidden under the panel. This argument is in line with reports that Apple will use a four-sided curved screen with no cutouts in the 20th anniversary iPhone model that it plans to release next year.

A new era in design and display technology

It is not yet clear whether Apple will position this special anniversary model in an ultra-premium segment above the existing Pro and Pro Max series. However, leaks indicate that the company may preserve the perforated screen design in the iPhone 19 Pro models and reserve the uninterrupted screen experience only for the special anniversary model.

It is stated that company engineers encountered significant difficulties in placing both the Face ID system and the front camera under the screen. In particular, hiding the selfie camera under the panel without compromising the image quality stands out as one of the biggest technical drawbacks for Apple.

If, with current technologies, the camera cannot be hidden under the screen without compromising the image quality, it seems possible for Apple to give up on this design. If this situation occurs, the model differentiation strategy in the 2027 iPhone series will continue to remain uncertain.

Leak source history and expectations

Sharing the information, Digital Chat Station had previously leaked the general design details of the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro and the triple 48-megapixel rear camera system on the iPhone 17 Pro. The source also recently claimed that Apple’s first foldable device will be released under the name iPhone Ultra along with the iPhone 18 Pro models.
