Tesla FSD is Moving Full Speed ​​​​Ahead on European Roads

Tesla shared FSD Supervised safety information before the EU approval vote on October 6. The system, used in 5 countries, reduces the risk of accidents by 4.1 times.

Tesla has taken a critical step in the process of obtaining approval for its supervised fully autonomous driving system (FSD) across Europe. The system, which is actively used in the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Estonia, and Lithuania and has been proven to reduce the risk of accidents by 4.1 times compared to manual driving, has had its safety data made public ahead of the European Union vote on October 6, 2026.

Approved in 5 European Countries: FSD Attracts Attention with Safety Statistics

According to current data shared by Tesla, FSD (Supervised) is currently actively used by more than 70,000 Tesla users in five EU countries for over 1 million kilometers every day. The 100 million kilometers of operational data recorded on EU roads reveals that the system is 4.1 times more reliable than human drivers.

Reminding that 19,400 people will lose their lives on European roads in 2025, the company emphasizes that the majority of accidents, which causes an average of 53 deaths per day, are caused by human error. Tesla has directly and transparently shared its safety panel supporting its EU Article 39 exemption application for its FSD architecture, which has been revised in compliance with the United Nations UN-R-171 DCAS regulations.

FSD Performance According to Road Types and Driving Dynamics

Tesla’s analysis, based on 3 billion kilometers of data fleet throughout 2025, shows the system’s net contribution to accident prevention:

  • Reduction in Accident Rates: Compared to manual driving, there are 69% fewer major accidents on main roads, 50% fewer in urban areas, 45% fewer on highways, and 40% fewer on local roads.
  • Lane Change Safety: Measurements based on 377 million fleet movements show that minor collisions during highway lane changes are reduced by 99%, and those during off-highway lane changes by 93%.
  • Braking and Driver Fatigue: The frequency of automatic emergency braking is reduced to 84%, and sudden hard braking is reduced to 81%. Risky situations caused by driver fatigue on the highway are reduced by 67%.
  • Speed ​​Adaptation and Challenging Conditions: The system maintains a speed at or below that of surrounding traffic for 98% of the driving time. In over 230,000 scenario tests conducted in rain, fog, night and day conditions, a 98% success rate is maintained.

October 6th Vote Will Be a Turning Point for the Entire EU

These safety data, transmitted to all EU member states after approval by the Dutch Vehicle Authority (RDW), are the most concrete support for the system to overcome bureaucratic hurdles. The fact that Tesla engineering vehicles have completed 1.6 million kilometers with zero fault-related accidents is also among the details that have attracted the attention of regulators.

The EU-wide approval vote on October 6, 2026, will directly determine the future of autonomous driving technologies on the European continent. If approved, the FSD (Supervised) system will gradually be made available to Tesla owners in other EU member states.
