Steam Controller, developed by Valve, ran out of stock in a short time after it was put on sale. The device, which went on sale at 13:00 local time on Monday, quickly reached consumers’ hands due to intense interest.

This rapid sell-out is also considered a positive sign for Valve’s highly anticipated new console, Steam Machine. It is not yet clear how much the first batch of the device has in stock.

Black market concerns and stock availability

The approximately $100 controller, which Valve only offers for sale on its own platform, has already become the target of the black market. As of May 4, listings on eBay show that the price of the device varies between $200 and $250.

Experts advise consumers not to turn to these high-priced sales. Following this high demand in the first stage, the stocks of the device are expected to be replenished in a short time.

Expectations are rising for Steam Machine

Steam Controller is a precursor to Steam Machine, the PC and console hybrid that Valve is working on. It is known that the console, which was previously postponed due to the RAM crisis and the increase in the cost of storage components, will be 6 x 6 inches in size.

Brad Lynch, who is well known in the VR world, stated in his post on X that a large number of game consoles were shipped to Valve’s warehouse. This development strengthens the expectations for the launch of Steam Machine.

Valve software developer Pierre-Loup Griffais stated that news about the pricing of the console will be shared soon. Market analysts and leak sources estimate that the price of the device could be around $600.

Griffais emphasized that they based the pricing of the device on production costs rather than a competitive analysis. Compared to similar hardware in the PC market, Steam Machine is expected to remain similar in price.

Although Steam Controller has a high price tag compared to the features it offers, it managed to attract the attention of players. Time will tell how much Steam Machine’s balance of performance and price will satisfy players.
