Spotify has launched its new clip feature for all users, which allows sharing podcast episodes at reasonable intervals.
Spotify has introduced a new feature that allows users to easily share certain parts of their favorite podcast content. This innovation, reminiscent of a similar function that YouTube recently terminated, aims to make the podcast experience more shareable.
The podcast clips feature, announced today, allows listeners to share the entire podcast episode, a certain part of it, or a time period of their choosing. Thanks to these options, accessible through the sharing menu, users can now send the moment they want directly to others without having to scan the entire section.
A new era in podcast sharing
When the sharing button is clicked, users are presented with the option to create the full episode, episode title, timestamp or a custom clip. In particular, the clip creation option allows listeners to precisely determine the specific time period they want to share. Spotify states that this new tool makes it easier for listeners to capture the moments that interest them most, revisit them and share them with others.
Shared clips are automatically saved to the user’s library. In this way, users who want to access the shared content later do not have to search for the relationship or create timestamps again. The feature has a similar working logic to the function previously offered by YouTube, which allows sharing video segments with certain timestamps.
Available to all users
YouTube discontinued its clip feature earlier in the year and instead expanded the ability to share from timestamps within the full image. Spotify sees this new sharing experience as a strategic step to increase podcast interaction on the platform. The updated sharing menu offers the convenience of managing both full episodes and short clips from a single point.
Spotify announced that the podcast clips feature is now available to both free and Premium subscribers. Users can quickly start using the update via their applications.
