The European smartphone market fell by 10 percent in the second quarter, reaching its lowest shipment volume in three years. Here is the current state of the market.
The European smartphone market saw its lowest shipment volume in three years during the second quarter of the year. According to a new report published by Counterpoint Research, a total of 35 million units were shipped between April and June.
This figure represents a 10 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. Factors contributing to this market decline include rising inflation, regional conflicts, and increasing component costs.
Apple and Samsung Compete for Market Leadership
According to Counterpoint data, Apple and Samsung dominate the market, each accounting for 34 percent of total shipments in the region. Xiaomi is in third place with a 15 percent share, while Oppo has 4 percent and Honor 3 percent.
The Western European market is performing relatively better thanks to Apple’s growth and Samsung’s small gains. On the Eastern European side, however, the situation is more negative due to the contraction in the budget-friendly device segment.
Future expectations and market situation
Analysts predict that shipments may decrease further in the coming period due to low inventory levels. Budget-only devices are expected to be the most affected category.
This market contraction may cause manufacturers to reconsider their strategies. Do you think this downward trend in the smartphone market will continue for the rest of the year?
