PSSR 2.0 Update Coming to PS5 Pro: Coming to All Games

PSSR 2.0 Update Coming to PS5 Pro: Coming to All Games

Sony is expanding PSSR 2.0 technology for PS5 Pro. Details of the new update, which will now offer sharper visual quality in all games, are in our news.

Sony is preparing to expand PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) 2.0 technology to a wider range of PlayStation 5 Pro users with a new system software beta update. As part of this update, the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” option, which previously had to be manually activated by users, is now the default setting.

With the new system software, not only games with PSSR 2.0 support but also those using first-generation PSSR technology will benefit from the improved image enhancement algorithm. With this move, Sony aims to offer a sharper and clearer visual experience in supported games.

A New Era in Image Quality

First-generation PSSR technology struggled to deliver the expected performance, especially in some games using the Unreal Engine 5. In games like Silent Hill 2 Remake, incompatibilities with lighting systems have been criticized by players regarding image quality. The improved PSSR 2.0 version aims to minimize these kinds of technical issues.

According to information shared on the ResetEra forums, details of this change are included in emails sent by Sony to beta program participants. It is stated that this setting will automatically be activated when the system software is updated, and a more improved visual process will be applied even in games using the old PSSR version.

System Stability and Other Improvements

The beta update does not only focus on image quality; it also brings system stability and performance improvements. Minor changes to the ability to turn off Bluetooth for users in some regions are also included in the update package.

Sony has not yet shared an official date for when the stable version of this beta update will be released to the general public. How much do you think PSSR 2.0 technology will change the visual experience in games?
